Hey! So Glad You're Here.
I'm Lianna, the face behind all of the journey posts. I started Jars of Clay to help others easily follow along and read about what's going on in my life as a traveling missionary.
The idea behind the theme here comes from one of my favourite passages in the Bible: 2 Corinthians 4: 7-18. Paul, a Christian, is writing to the church of Corinth a letter and reminder to not lose heart and to focus on the right things. Although some of the concepts he mentions are deep this one paints a beautiful picture to me. The analogy in the beginning verses points towards Christians being like jars of clay. If you've ever gotten to create something out of clay you will know it needs to be warmed up, shaped and set through the kiln-- it is hard work! The analogy goes on to explain that what is most important is what that jar will hold and how the jar holds it. If the jar is well made AND well cared for, it will be able to hold things in it for longer. Did you know that to preserve clay jars you need to douse them in water often so the clay doesn't dry up and crack?
I am reminded through the words of Paul that no matter what I encounter in life I am able to withstand any hardships because I am not going through my journey on my own, Jesus is helping me. In other words, as a 'jar of clay' myself, I need to be continually 'watered and cared for' so that when I fall I don't break but instead I am protected because I carry 'living water'. I hope to take this reminder and carry it with me as I go through life and as I build my webpage around this theme.
